A philological study on poisoning and side effects of Schizandrae Fructus(五味子)

Abstract

|
Schizandrae Fructus is in use in the Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Schizandrae Fructus for astringing the lung(斂肺), nourishing the kidney(滋腎), and arresting seminal emission(삽정), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, side effects, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Schizandrae Fructus. The results were summarized as follows： 1. There are no striking poisoning from Schizandrae Fructus, but this herbal medicine mainly can cause inconvenience of the epigastrium, stomachache, anorexia loss of appetite, fatigue, sinus tachycardia, hypersensitive reaction, etc for the side effects. 2. The representative methods of treatment for poisoning and side effects from Schizandrae Fructus in the western medicine use calcium gluconate, vitamine B, C, antihistamine, antiallergic drugs, and fluocinolone acetonide, and symptomatic treatment, etc. 3. The representative methods of treatment for poisoning and side effects from Schizandrae Fructus in the Korean medicine take advantage of Calamina for stopping pruritus. And Korean medical doctors should meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning and side effects of Schizandrae Fructus, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
